Does Your Daddy have a gun? series (ongoing)
A study of films and photographs of the artists' Father and extended family. Exploring familial connections and where they exist, how/why they are maintained. Searching the past for clues and things that tie us to the future.
'We used to go to boot sales. One time we went this American guy started chatting to my mum, when he saw me he started exclaiming how pretty I was before bending down to me to ask, 'Does your Daddy have a gun, 'cos he's gonna need one!' And my blood ran cold! I don't know why but something central started to unravel and I felt like I couldn't breathe in. But things externally stayed the same, external to my inner panic I mean. Likely the American man moved away and we carried on. My mum doesn't remember this, so did it happen? How reliable is my own memory? And even now, when I look at my Dad I feel this fear, I search that comment and my reaction to it for deeper meaning; I've surely sucked every bit of life from it but still insist on carrying its carcass around.'
